We all have fear. Even if we like to admit it or not. Fear shows up differently for everyone. Sometimes fear is good thing as it’s a warning sign for us to not do something - OR fear can sometimes hold us back and actually prevent us from living life to the fullest.
In the past, for me, fear has shown up in a way that it prevented me from doing things. Fear of what people would think, fear of failing, fear I would be lonely, fear I would make the wrong choice , fear of not having enough money... the list goes on and on. In many ways I was fearless, I could make bold choices and I didn't need anyones approval, but what I noticed was when I really needed to take action or even just having a good time and let my hair down, I couldn’t.
"I DECIDED TO LEAN INTO THE FEAR".
As some of you may know, I recently made the decision to go traveling on my own. This brought up a lot of fear even though it was something that I have always wanted to do. I used to travel with work and I loved it - experiencing new cultures and seeing how other parts of the world live. I knew I needed and wanted to get away so I decided to lean into the fear. I listened to my gut and heart instead of my head.
This was the start of how I have broke through the fear barrier and actually started listening to my wants and needs.
How to Ignore Fear and Live Life to the Fullest
DISCOVER YOUR TRUTH
The first step to living life to the fullest is actually knowing what your truth is. Most of the time we are making decisions based on someone else’s beliefs or truth. Your parents, friends, partners, social media, or the news. Sometimes we haven't even had the freedom or ability to work out what our own truths are. Ask yourself the following questions - this should help you define your truth and begin your journey to finding your authentic self.
What are your values?
What makes you happy?
How do you want to live your life?
Do you like waking up early or not?
Do you like being social or not?
What foods do you like?
Do you love yourself?
Do you feel compassion for others and if not why?
Do you have boundaries?
You might be thinking - what do these questions have to do with fear? Well, if you don’t know yourself fully, how can you live a life without fear? How can you make decisions that will light you up and fill your life with happiness, if you don’t know how to get there in the first place?
IMAGINE YOUR LIFE FEAR-FREE
The next step is actually working out what you want. Meditation is a great way to listen to yourself. This is also when the magic happens. Imagine what your life would look like if you had no fear. Imagine doing the things you have always wanted to do, without fear holding you back.
Perhaps you'd start that business, or like me you'd go travelling in unknown territory. Maybe you'll let yourself fall in love, and grow a family of your dreams. Fear has this destructive way of masking your true desires. Switch off and let your mind roam unrestricted - where does it take you?
LEAN INTO THE FEAR
Then just start leaning into fear. Embrace it. There's nothing 'wrong' with the feeling of fear. If you think about it, excitement and nervous energy are very similar in how they feel and make us think/behave. Focus on turning that nervous, scared energy into excitement and anticipation. Focus on how you will feel after when you break through that fear barrier and you begin living the life you have silently dreamed of. Start making decisions from your heart not your head.
Don't just exist - live.
These words could not feel more aligned with this journey. If you want to transform your life, you've got to push through that mental barrier of fear and embrace what's to come. I would highly recommend reading 'The Surrender Experiment' and 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway' to expand on this philosophy.
If you need support in breaking through fear and embracing what life has to offer, I have recently launched my 1-1 tailored mentorship program where we can focus on allowing you mind to roam free and clearly define your desires. Included are some 1-1 Zoom sessions, where I'll also help you with other exercises for improving mindset and getting the best out of your thoughts.
